WMF Announces the Launch of a New Phase of Work at Mosul Cultural Museum

Dear Friend,

I am thrilled to announce the launch of a new phase in World Monuments Fund's (WMF) project to rehabilitate the Mosul Cultural Museum, part of a historic partnership led by the Iraqi State Board of Antiquities and Heritage (SBAH), the Musée du Louvre, the Smithsonian Institution, the International alliance for the protection of heritage in conflict areas (ALIPH), and WMF to revive the site.

Honoring the unique design of Iraqi architect Mohamed Makiya, this new phase of work, supported by ALIPH, will address severe damage to the building's Assyrian Hall and modernize its visitor accommodations, interpretative displays, and education facilities. It will do so following an inclusive design process inviting participation from local experts and community members.

WMF's project at the Mosul Cultural Museum is a critical step toward its reestablishment as a living center for culture and education after its destruction by ISIS in 2015. Advancing the long-term sustainability of the museum's operations, our work at the site underscores its place within the city's historic urban landscape.

I invite you to learn more about our work at the Mosul Cultural Museum on our website or at the link below.
